    What to know

    • EAAA India Alternatives opened at 1,675.50 rupees on the NSE on Nov. 2, 0.63% above its 1,665-rupee IPO price, and closed at 1,727.80 rupees, up 3.8%.
    • The 12 billion rupee IPO was entirely an offer for sale by Edelweiss Securities and Investments, so the company raised no new money.
    • Qualified institutional buyers subscribed more than 13 times their portion while the retail book was only about 1 times covered.

    MUMBAI

Shares of EAAA India Alternatives, the alternative asset management arm of the Edelweiss group, opened at 1,675.50 rupees on the National Stock Exchange of India on Monday, just 0.63% above the 1,665-rupee price of its 12 billion rupee (1,200 crore) initial public offering. On BSE the stock opened at 1,673 rupees, a premium of 0.48%, according to listing data reported by Upstox, 5paisa and The Economic Times. The shares then gained ground and closed at 1,727.80 rupees on the NSE, 3.8% above the issue price, The Economic Times reported.

The muted start matters beyond Mumbai. EAAA is one of the few listed pure plays on Indian private credit and infrastructure assets. Its flat debut, after strong institutional demand but thin retail interest, stood in contrast to Jio Platforms' 27% first-day jump last week.

How the EAAA India Alternatives IPO was priced and sold

The offer was priced at the top of a 1,585 to 1,665 rupee band and consisted entirely of existing shares. Edelweiss Securities and Investments, the promoter entity, sold about 7.2 million shares, equal to 11.15% of the company's post-offer equity, according to the issue details published by Business Standard. EAAA itself received none of the proceeds.

Business Today put the implied valuation at the upper end of the band at about 107.65 billion rupees. Axis Capital, Jefferies India, Motilal Oswal Investment Advisors and Nuvama Wealth Management ran the deal.

Bidding ran from Oct. 26 to Oct. 28. The issue was subscribed 5.51 times overall, according to 5paisa and The Economic Times, with qualified institutional buyers bidding for more than 13 times the shares set aside for them. Non-institutional investors subscribed between 4.5 and 5 times their portion, while the individual investor book was covered only about once. Upstox put the overall figure slightly lower, at 5.25 times.

On Oct. 23, EAAA raised about 3.6 billion rupees from anchor investors. Upstox reported that the anchor book included the mutual fund arms of ICICI Prudential, HDFC, Kotak, Nippon India and SBI, along with Schroders, 360 ONE and Norway's Government Pension Fund Global.

Investors could apply for a minimum lot of nine shares, costing 14,985 rupees. At the NSE opening price, that lot was worth about 94.5 rupees more than its cost. Individual investors could bid for up to 194,805 rupees of stock, Business Today reported. Shares were allotted on Oct. 29 and credited to investors' accounts on Oct. 30, leaving a weekend before trading began.

    First-day trading in EAAA shares

The stock moved in a wide band after the open. It climbed as high as 1,763 rupees, 5.89% above the offer price, and dipped as low as 1,601 rupees, 3.84% below it, according to 5paisa. At 12:09 p.m. India time it was trading at 1,697.90 rupees, about 2% above the issue price, giving the company a market value of roughly 109.78 billion rupees, and about 6.4 million shares had changed hands. It finished the session at 1,727.80 rupees, 3.1% above its NSE opening price.

Buyers stepped in during the session. NSE bulk deal data cited by The Economic Times showed HDFC Mutual Fund, Carnelian Asset Management & Advisors and Larsen & Toubro together bought about 1.88 million shares worth roughly 3.16 billion rupees, at average prices between 1,679.75 and 1,691.80 rupees.

That pattern, a near-flat open followed by two-way trading and a modest gain by the close, contrasts with the double-digit listing pops that retail investors in India have often chased.

    What EAAA India Alternatives does

EAAA manages money for institutional and other eligible clients in two main businesses: real assets, which covers infrastructure and commercial real estate, and private credit, which spans performing credit, special situations, real estate credit and investment-grade credit, according to Business Today. Upstox reported that the company was set up in 2008 and has offices in Mumbai, Delhi, GIFT City and Singapore.

Assets under management rose to about 953.45 billion rupees at the end of June 2026, from 727.06 billion rupees at the end of March, 5paisa reported, citing the offer documents. Fee-paying assets were 486.23 billion rupees in June.

Earnings have grown quickly. For the year ended March 31, 2026, total income was 9.64 billion rupees and profit after tax was 2.65 billion rupees, according to 5paisa. In the June quarter, profit rose 45% from a year earlier to 807 million rupees, and revenue from operations increased 44.4% to 2.76 billion rupees, according to Business Today.

At the 12:09 p.m. market value, the stock traded at roughly 41 times fiscal 2026 profit. The next marker is EAAA's first set of quarterly results as a listed company, covering the three months to September, which will show whether the growth in fee-paying assets carried into the second quarter.
