Cookie Policy and Settings
Last updated
Cookies are small files that a website stores in your browser. Local storage is a similar kind of browser storage. Capital Times keeps both to a minimum. Strictly necessary storage is always on. Analytics and advertising cookies are optional, and you can turn them on or off at any time in the settings panel on this page.
Strictly necessary
These are needed for the site to work as you expect, so they cannot be turned off here.
- Session cookie. Set only when you sign in. It keeps you signed in as you move from page to page.
- Consent cookie. Remembers your cookie choices so we do not ask you again on every page.
- Display preferences (local storage). When you choose a light or dark theme or change the text size, your browser remembers that choice. It is not used to identify or track you.
You can block these in your browser settings, but signing in and remembering your choices will then not work.
Analytics (optional)
We use Google Analytics, only if you turn it on, to understand how the site is used: how many people visit, which articles they read and how they find us. Google Analytics stores cookies that tell one browser apart from another (their names begin with _ga). We use the reports to improve the site, not to identify individual readers.
Advertising (optional)
Advertising helps fund Capital Times. Ads on the site are served by Google AdSense.
- If you turn advertising on, Google may use cookies to show ads based on your interests and your activity on other sites, and to measure how ads perform.
- If you leave it off, we do not load Google's advertising code, so you see no ads and Google sets no advertising cookies through our site.
Google's own policy explains how it uses information from sites that show its ads.
Market data widgets
Live quotes on Capital Times, such as the markets strip at the top of each page, are shown in widgets provided by TradingView. When a widget loads, your browser connects to TradingView, which may set its own cookies or use similar technology to run it. TradingView's privacy policy explains how it handles this information.
Change your choices
Use the panel below to turn analytics or advertising on or off. You can come back at any time through the Cookie Settings link at the foot of every page.
A change applies from that moment. Turning a category off does not delete cookies already stored in your browser; you can remove those in your browser settings. If you clear the consent cookie, we will ask for your choices again on your next visit.
For more on how we handle personal data, see our Privacy Notice.
