Geneva Watch Auctions Open Fall Season With CHF 4 Million Patek Philippe as Top Lot
Phillips and Sotheby's line up more than 400 watches for Geneva sales this week, testing collector demand after a strong spring season.

What to know
- Phillips will offer at least 220 watches at the Hotel President in Geneva on Nov. 7-8, led by a 1945 Patek Philippe Ref. 1436 estimated at CHF 2 million to CHF 4 million.
- Sotheby's Important Watches sale in Geneva has 184 lots, opened for bidding on Oct. 20 and closes on Nov. 8, with an exhibition at the Mandarin Oriental on Nov. 5-7.
- Phillips said its spring 2026 sales in Geneva, Hong Kong and New York realized more than US$235 million, with three watches above US$10 million.
GENEVA
A stainless steel Patek Philippe split-seconds chronograph from 1945 heads the Geneva fall watch auctions this week, with Phillips estimating it at CHF 2 million to CHF 4 million for its sale on Nov. 7 and 8. Sotheby's, which opened bidding on a 184-lot Important Watches sale in Geneva on Oct. 20, closes that auction on Nov. 8.
The Geneva sales are the first big test of collector demand since a spring season in which Phillips sold three watches for more than US$10 million each. For buyers in Hong Kong and Singapore, they also come just ahead of Phillips' Hong Kong sale later in the season. Phillips toured its Geneva highlights through Singapore and Hong Kong in October.
Phillips Geneva Watch Auction leans on Patek Philippe and F.P. Journe
Phillips, which sells in association with Bacs & Russo, said the Geneva Watch Auction: XXIV will offer no fewer than 220 timepieces at the Hotel President on Quai Wilson. The top lot is a stainless steel Patek Philippe Ref. 1436 split-seconds chronograph made in 1945.
Independent watchmaker F.P. Journe supplies two of the five headline lots. A platinum Chronomètre à Résonance “Régence” from 2002 carries an estimate of CHF 1 million to CHF 2 million. A titanium Chronomètre à Résonance from 2007, made for the brand's boutique in Tokyo, is estimated at CHF 400,000 to CHF 800,000. Rapaport, the trade publication, described the Tokyo piece as marking the shop's second anniversary.
Rolex fills the rest of the top tier. A yellow-gold Cosmograph Daytona Ref. 6241 from about 1969, known to collectors as the “John Player Special,” is estimated at CHF 800,000 to CHF 1.6 million. A yellow-gold Ref. 6062 “Stelline” from about 1952, with triple calendar and moon phase, is estimated at CHF 600,000 to CHF 1.2 million. Phillips said that watch was discovered in Japan.
The tour leaned toward Asia. Phillips previewed the Geneva lots in Singapore at the St. Regis on Oct. 16 and 17, and in Hong Kong at its Phillips Perpetual space in Central's Pedder Arcade from Oct. 20 to 22, according to the house's published schedule. Dubai, New York, London and Riyadh were also on the route.
Sotheby's Important Watches runs online until Nov. 8
Sotheby's has set up its Geneva sale differently. The Important Watches auction has been open for bids since Oct. 20 and runs to Nov. 8, with a public exhibition at the Mandarin Oriental on Quai Turrettini from Nov. 5 to 7, according to the sale page. Featured lots include a Rolex Daytona “Big Red” Ref. 6263 from about 1985, an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak from about 1993, a Patek Philippe Calatrava Ref. 5027 made in 1991 and an F.P. Journe Octa Divine from about 2004.
The sale page did not show estimates for the featured pieces when Capital Times reviewed it.
How the estimates compare with spring results
The Geneva estimates are modest next to the spring. Phillips said its sales in Geneva, Hong Kong and New York in the spring 2026 season realized more than US$235 million, and three watches sold for more than US$10 million each. Even at the top of its range, the Patek Ref. 1436 would sell for about US$4.9 million at the exchange rate Rapaport used.
Four of Phillips' five headline lots sit in the CHF 400,000 to CHF 2 million range, with two F.P. Journe watches alongside vintage Rolex. Retail demand offers some support in Asia: Swiss watch exports to Hong Kong edged up in September.
Neither Phillips nor Sotheby's has published a total presale estimate for its Geneva sale. Phillips gives estimates lot by lot, so the season total will only be clear once the hammer falls.
Phillips is also touring lots for its Hong Kong Watch Auction: XXIII, with a Geneva preview at the Hotel President Wilson from Nov. 4 to 8 and a Singapore viewing at the St. Regis on Nov. 13 and 14. The Phillips Geneva sale on Nov. 7 is the first result to watch.
